4th Annual St Louis Dystonia Zoo Walk Raises Awareness for Disabling Brain Disorder

Family-Friendly Event Will Take Place Sunday, August 26

Online PR News – 13-August-2018 – June Tritley’s sons, Scott (11) and Quintyn (8), were only toddlers when they were diagnosed with dystonia, a disabling brain disorder. The boys battle daily with controlling the movements of their bodies. Everyday life is challenging for her children, and her hope is that one day there will be a cure. Scott and Quintyn are not alone. No fewer than 250,000 Americans are affected by this disorder, with many in the St Louis area.

Dystonia is characterized by extreme, involuntary muscle contractions that result in twisting, repetitive muscle movements as well as sustained, abnormal postures of the body and limbs. There are many manifestations of dystonia that impact people of all ages and backgrounds.

St Louis is one of 13 cities across the U.S. hosting a Dystonia Zoo Walk in 2018. This is a family-friendly day at the Zoo to raise awareness about dystonia and funds for medical research toward a cure. There will be games, face painting, refreshments, door prizes, and special guests. Cost is $25 per adult/$15 for children. Fee includes all day zoo admission, dystonia t-shirt, and refreshments. Proceeds benefit the Dystonia Medical Research Foundation.

The Dystonia Medical Research Foundation is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization dedicated to advancing research for improved dystonia treatments and ultimately a cure, promoting awareness, and supporting the well-being of affected individuals and families.

WHEN: Sunday, August 26. Registration opens at 8:00 am. Event begins at 9:00 am.

WHERE: St Louis Zoo (The Living World), One Government Drive, St. Louis – North Parking Lot.
