A-Team Regtech Summit Calls for Cooperation Between Vendors, Users and Regulators

Stephane Malrait, managing director of market structure and innovation in financial markets at ING, opened the Summit with a review of the regtech landscape and a call for financial institutions, solution providers and regulators to join forces to support regtech growth and innovation, and overcome barriers to adoption.

Delivering a keynote on the future of fighting financial crime, Che Sidanius, global head of financial regulatory and industry affairs at Thomson Reuters, repeated the need for cooperation, this time between public and private organisations, and noted the necessity to share information and technology to challenge the problems of financial crime including money laundering on a global scale, rising numbers of victims of modern slavery, and its potential to destabilise the banking system.

A third keynote presented by Peter Moss, CEO of the SmartStream Reference Data Utility (RDU), noted significant opportunities for regtech to support compliance with the systematic internalisation regime under Markets in Financial Instruments Directive II (MiFID II).

The Summit also included panel sessions led by industry leaders and covering everything from regtech business uses cases to the promise of artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning. A solutions showcase featured four young regtech providers, their services, pricing models and roadmaps.
