Amed SK Target Turkish Süper Lig Lead in Galatasaray Clash as Osimhen Requires Knee Surgery

Amed SK can go top of the Turkish Süper Lig on Saturday if they defeat reigning champions Galatasaray at RAMS Park, capping off a fast start to their debut season in Turkey’s top flight. Six months after celebrating promotion, the club from Diyarbakır enters the 10th matchday of the 2026/2027 season with a direct chance to overtake the league leaders at the summit of the standings.

The upcoming matchup between Galatasaray and Amed SK brings together Turkey’s reigning champions and an unexpected title challenger playing in the Süper Lig for the first time following successive promotions. Amedspor’s strong form through 10 matches has turned Saturday’s game in Istanbul into a top-of-the-table showdown. BBC reported that head-to-head statistics reflect a rare meeting between the established champions and the newly promoted side.

Diyarbakır side targets top spot

Amed SK, the Kurdish club based in Diyarbakır, secured promotion to the Turkish top flight six months ago after back-to-back promotion campaigns. Ten games into the 2026/2027 Süper Lig season, the team stands on the brink of taking first place if they defeat Galatasaray on Saturday.

Reporting by Al Jazeera noted that Amedspor’s entry into the top flight has shaken up Turkish football. A victory over Galatasaray would move the newly promoted side past the champions into sole possession of first place after 10 matches.

The fixture at RAMS Park represents a rapid rise for Amed SK. Having earned successive promotions from lower divisions, the Diyarbakır team has maintained momentum through the opening 10 games of the 2026/2027 season, putting them in position to challenge the Süper Lig title holders. beIN Sports noted that six months after celebrating promotion, Amed SK now have a realistic chance to overtake Galatasaray at the top of the standings.

Osimhen ruled out for knee surgery

Galatasaray will play the match without star striker Victor Osimhen, who suffered a knee injury during a recent fixture against Stuttgart. New Telegraph reported that Osimhen is set to undergo arthroscopic knee surgery at an Istanbul hospital, ruling him out of the clash against Amed SK.

The surgery follows weeks of mounting pressure on Galatasaray’s coaching staff to rotate the Nigerian striker due to concerns over his early-season workload, ZAlebs reported. Prior to his injury against Stuttgart, medical concerns had already prompted calls for Osimhen to be rested.

The knee injury halts a prolific run for Osimhen. On Nov 7, 2026, Osimhen scored both goals in Galatasaray’s 2-1 victory over Fenerbahce in the Istanbul derby, ESPN reported. Prior to that derby match, Osimhen had publicly warned of chaos ahead of Monday’s clash, and tension duly arrived after the final whistle as post-match altercations broke out between the rival sides.

Osimhen’s injury also pauses his pursuit of a historic club milestone. Both Osimhen and midfielder Aleksey Batrakov had been chasing historic Galatasaray records heading into the Amed SK fixture, according to Afrik-Foot.

Orban and Batrakov in spotlight

With Osimhen sidelined for surgery, the focal point of the attack shifts to Amed SK forward Gift Orban and Galatasaray midfielder Aleksey Batrakov. Sports Mole and Afrik-Foot had previewed the match as a clash of goal kings between Osimhen and Orban, but Orban will now lead Amedspor’s attack against a reconfigured Galatasaray lineup.

For Galatasaray, Batrakov remains available as the home side aims to maintain its lead at the top of the table while pursuing individual club milestones. Amed SK will rely on Orban to break down the host defense at RAMS Park as the Diyarbakır club searches for its most significant victory of the 2026/2027 Süper Lig season.

Sports Mole noted in its preview, predictions, and lineup analysis that both clubs enter Saturday’s match with specific team news adjustments following injuries and tactical shifts ahead of kickoff.
