Germany’s DAX index reached a fresh all-time high of 26,644.33 points on Thursday morning, edging past the previous record of 26,618.74 set in August. The US midterm elections appear to have given the market its lift.
The margin matters. The DAX needed just 25.6 points to break August’s peak, and by the time it printed 26,644.33, the index was sitting roughly 3% above its recent 25,864 close. Small gaps, but at this level every point is a record being rewritten.
The DAX is Germany’s leading stock index — the standard barometer for the country’s biggest companies. A November outlook note on the market refers to it as the Germany 40 and records a 25,864 close, with two forces setting the tone: oil prices and expectations around the European Central Bank’s next rate decision. So when the DAX moves, the first questions are about energy costs and ECB policy, not just share prices.
The proximate trigger, as reported by DPA International, is the US midterm elections. Their aftermath appears to have buoyed investors, and German blue chips rode that wave higher. That’s the short answer. The longer one involves what happened inside the chart before the record print — and why not everyone at the moment is celebrating.
On the technical side, the DAX had just broken out of what analysts call a parabolic Bollinger Band setup — a volatility envelope that, when it stretches this sharply, signals a market running on speed. After that burst, the index arrived at its own all-time-high resistance, the classic zone where buyers exhaust themselves.
For instance, at the record zone the DAX printed a doji: a candle where the day’s open and close nearly match. It formed near the 61.8% Fibonacci retracement level, a support-and-resistance mark that chart-watchers treat as a line in the sand. A doji is the market shrugging — after sprinting past the band, bulls and bears traded to a standoff instead of breaking higher in one clean move. The record is real; so is the hesitation.
The search term “dax” splits two very different trending stories. Dax Shepard, the American actor, has been back in tabloids after his wife Kristen Bell appeared on the October 26 episode of his Armchair Expert podcast and took a dig at his flirting style. Their past remarks — his admitted nine-year open relationship before the couple married in 2013, and his confession of having posted a photo of Bell’s nude body twice on social media, which drew a shocked reaction from Gwyneth Paltrow — got dragged back into scrutiny. Last week he also told the same podcast that marriage to Bell would have been “pretty smooth sailing” without kids.
None of that has anything to do with 26,644.33 points. But it means a search for “dax” right now returns Frankfurt and Hollywood in the same feed. The number that matters is the Frankfurt one — and the level everyone will now watch is whether the DAX holds above the August peak of 26,618.74, or falls back from it.
