Bell justifies this concept by noting the “safety disadvantages of traditional tail rotors and the added weight and complexity of ducted fan designs”* (Source: Flight Global). Furthermore, Bell are also looking to increase rotorcraft performance similar to fixed-wing aircrafts from obtaining split-tip winglets, which will save fuel usage significantly.
