Fleetunderground Launch Artificial Intelligence News Article Scoring System

London, United Kingdom, November 17, 2018 –(PR.com)– Looking at the phenomenon of fake news, the Fleetunderground team could see that the deliberate fabrication of facts was only part of a broader problem and that there were many other factors that could be tackled. This led to the decision to build the “Fleetomoter,” a novel user facing AI driven news scoring system, possibly the first of its kind.

The system works by analyzing a very large library of articles which have each been labeled as to whether they posses various contributing indicators. Using mathematical functions, models are created which at large scale can usefully separate the noise from the signal, and determine linguistic patterns associated with each of the indicators. These indicators are then combined to produce scores for for “spin,” “bias,” “fakeness” and “speculation,” along with an overall score for each article.

Tom Davies of Fleetunderground News, who is optimistic about the future of AI article scoring systems said, “We believe that this sort of technology can be a genuinely useful tool for news readers in their discovery and consumption of content, aiding a healthy lens of skepticism perhaps, and will only improve and become more widespread.”

Tom Davies also issued a word of caution over the AI technology, “This tackles a difficult problem, not only because of the complexity of the technologies involved and determining an effective recipe, but also because of the inherent difficulty of finding scores that different people will agree with. There is an unavoidable element of subjectivity, but having said this, the technology does seem to work. We’ve observed a strong correlation between the automated analysis and human scoring.”
