HPC-AI Advisory Council Announces the Winners of the 4th APAC HPC-AI Competition

36 Student Teams from Around the Asia Pacific (APAC) Region Participated in the Six-Month Long Competition which included Training and Hands-on Challenges

SINGAPORE & SUNNYVALE, Calif.–(BUSINESS WIRE)–#aiThe HPC-AI Advisory Council (HPCAIAC) and National Supercomputing Centre (NSCC) Singapore today announced the university team winners of its annual HPC-AI challenge, the 4th APAC HPC-AI Competition. The annual APAC HPC-AI competition�s mission is to bridge the gap between high-performance computing (HPC) and AI use, and its application potential as part of talent development for participants from universities and research centers. This year’s competition consisted of 36 teams from 13 countries and regions in APAC.

The winners of the competition were:

  • 1st Place and Overall Champion – Southern University of Science and Technology
  • 2nd Place – National Tsing Hua University-KW, National Cheng Kung University – DAGG
  • 3rd Place – National Tsing Hua University- EM, Thammasat University Team (Lampang), Nanyang Technological University
  • Merit Place – Thammasat University CSTU-Rangsit, National Cheng Kung University – APEX, Universiti Putra Malaysia
  • HPC Special Prize – National Tsing Hua University-KW
  • AI Special Prize – Southern University of Science and Technology

With the continued support of NSCC Singapore, student competitors were provided with hands-on access to the Singapore-based advanced supercomputing resources. Teams were challenged with mastering one HPC task (GROMACS) and one AI task (DLRM), the same complex HPC and AI workloads that are integral to today’s major applications.

This augurs well for the future of the HPC and AI talent pool in one of the world’s fastest growing economic regions. The 4th APAC HPC-AI Competition Award Ceremony will be held at the SupercomputingAsia 2022 (SCA22) hybrid conference in Singapore on 2 March, 2022.
