International Student Perspective: an Immersive Experience Abroad at the University of Nottingham Ningbo China

NINGBO, China–(BUSINESS WIRE)–Student experiences are important to seek out when choosing study abroad destinations. Some useful references may include the Student Experience Survey and student feedback about their lives.

According to the 2020 Nottingham Student Experience Survey, over 90% of University of Nottingham Ningbo China (UNNC) students said they were satisfied with arrival, support and happiness. Overall student satisfaction was 93.3%, remaining at a high level compared with Global (89.9%) and Asia (89.5%) benchmark groups.

On campus, there are nearly a hundred student organisations and societies. Students are never short of opportunities to make friends from around the world, as the University offers study abroad and exchange programmes with over 100 partner universities in 40 countries and regions. Great diversity can also be found within a student community gathered from over 70 countries and regions.

Hee Yeon YOON, a South Korean student commented that she chose UNNC for its cultural diversity and the many opportunities to experience Chinese culture.

Chinese culture was something that I was not used to, but I became interested in it when I came to UNNC.” She said, “I have attended Chinese cultural workshops organised by the Confucius Institute and Mandarin Corners where I could learn Chinese from fellow students. I also took part in the 2019 International Education Week Chinese Competition and won first prize. It helped me a lot with learning and developing a global mindset.”

Javier, a Spanish student gives a vivid description of life in Ningbo. “Allow yourself to take a trip on the Ningbo Metro, which will look amazingly futuristic and travel to one of its most remote stations. Abruptly, you will find yourself in a stunning mix of rural scenery and urban settings. Look to your right, you will see one of the billion gigantic blocks of flats constructed in China during recent years to provide housing for its colossal urban growth. Look to your left, and you will see a rice field with a couple of farmers working on it, a small Buddhist temple with pleasant burning incense and a winding stream coming down from the nearby mountains.”
