Two young people, John and Penny, becoming friends through their daily trudge to work in London. Each with a strong desire to opt-out of the rat race and pursue a different way of life, they come together in a joint venture on the Scottish island of Lewis and Harris.

Life is sweet, despite the hard work in setting up a smallholding to become self-supporting. They marry and have a family.

John�s earlier relationship with a Chinese girl, Mai Ling, when he had been posted to Hong Kong by his company, results in extremely unfortunate circumstances. Unbeknown to John, Mai Ling had John�s child and then comes into his family life by arriving in the UK.

Penny forgave John, for it had happened so long ago, and even encouraged John to keep in touch with his son, Robert, by inviting Mai Ling and Robert to stay with them during school holidays.

Mai�s love for John has not diminished and causes untold problems, with John finally murdering her. He is sentenced to life imprisonment... and therein lies a story.

About Paul Richards
Paul Richards was born in North Finchley, London Borough of Barnet. He was educated at Windsor County Boys School, Berkshire, then Holloway Grammar School, North London. Commenced work at the Cumberland Garage, Marble Arch. Two years in the army, R.E.M.E., attached to a Gurkha regiment in Malaysia.

Returning to the UK, he formed a company Richards & Thirkell (Luton) Ltd. specialising in headwear for sports and supplied throughout the world. Main supplier to the R&A in St. Andrews, and 2,000 golf clubs in the UK. Later, manufacturing specialised headwear for the police and industry. Paul was managing director of the company for thirty-three years, until his retirement.

It was only in his retirement that he started writing.
