Mikell Reed Carroll, International Ms. USA 2020, will travel to Luxembourg to volunteer with Wreaths Across America as they expand their mission overseas.
The ceremony will take place on November 30, 2019 in Luxembourg at the Luxembourg American Cemetery.
This is not the first time Mikell has volunteered with Wreaths Across America. She has previously volunteered to place wreaths at Arlington National Cemetery in Arlington, VA in 2016 and was so moved by the experience that she decided to volunteer again, this time in Europe, where she now lives with her family due to her job with the US Department of State.
For the second year in a row, Wreaths Across America is advancing its mission to Remember, Honor, Teach to American cemeteries overseas. This year, on November 30 and December 1, Maine-made balsam fir veterans’ wreaths will be placed on the headstones of all 5,073 U.S. service members laid to rest at Luxembourg American Cemetery, and an additional 8,291 veterans’ wreaths at Netherlands American Cemetery and Memorial (respectively).
Mikell feels its important to honor our veterans and fallen heroes, as her own husband is a combat veteran of the United States Marine Corps and she has several family members who served in the United States Navy. It also means a lot to her that the wreaths placed are from her home state of Maine, where she once worked in a wreath factory to pay the bills while studying for the Bar exam.
Mikell will attend the November 30th ceremony and then place wreaths following the ceremony. This will be her first trip to Luxembourg.
Mikell was crowned International Ms. USA on August 25th, 2019 in New York City. The International Ms. Pageant recognizes women of elegance and enterprise from around the globe.
