NERA Appoints James Mellsop New Chair of Antitrust and Competition Practice

NERA Announces New Chair of Antitrust Practice


NEW YORK–(BUSINESS WIRE)–NERA Economic Consulting is pleased to announce that James Mellsop has been named Chair of the Antitrust and Competition Practice, assuming the role on 1 July 2021. Mr. Mellsop will lead a team of more than 150 competition consultants, including over 60 economic experts, spanning Asia Pacific, Europe, and North America.

Mr. Mellsop is considered one of the leading competition economists in the world, particularly on the merger and regulatory issues that are front and center in Australia and New Zealand. Mr. Mellsop has provided expert evidence before courts, tribunals, competition authorities, and arbitrators in Australia, New Zealand, and Singapore, and has also worked on projects in Hong Kong, Malaysia, and Thailand. He has also been engaged by both the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission and the New Zealand Commerce Commission.

Mr. Mellsop succeeds Dr. Lauren Stiroh as Practice Chair. Dr. Stiroh is stepping down after a successful five-year term. She will resume her full-time consulting practice, continuing to provide superior economic analysis to her clients as Managing Director. “Lauren Stiroh has been an exceptional Practice Chair, leading some of the brightest minds in competition economics and developing our next generation of thought leaders,” said Dr. Wu. “She is a brilliant economist and will continue to provide our clients with outstanding economic analysis and service.”
