New Consumer Protection Rules in the UK

Bennewitz, Germany, October 21, 2018 –(PR.com)– Ofcom has recently strengthened the consumer protection rules. The changes are made in order to provide more protection against nuisance calls, call ID spoofing, and other types of telephone frauds. The new rules came into force in the beginning of this month. www.tellows.co.uk informs about the changes Ofcom made to protect consumers better from dubious numbers.

One of the key changes is that customers will no longer be charged for using caller ID services. This allows customers to safely use apps such as tellows to demonstrate the seriousness of numbers through caller display services while ringing.

Furthermore, telephone numbers should only be valid, so that it does not happen that the number doesn�t exist in the case of a possible callback. Thus, the caller ID spoofing should be minimized.

Also, telephone companies should now work on blocking invalid numbers in order to protect their own customers from telephone frauds. In addition, Ofcom is now able to remove number blocks from communications providers when used to harm people. Furthermore, Ofcom has improved the rules for handling complaints and protecting vulnerable customers.

With all these changes, Ofcom wants to reduce the number of telephone frauds in the UK and make telephone calls more secure again.
