Piccadily Distilleries Makes India Proud Once Again. Indri Dru, Its Cask Strength Expression, Wins the ‘Best Indian Single Malt’ at World Whiskies Awards 2024

NEW DELHI–(BUSINESS WIRE)–#IndianSingleMalt–After the remarkable success of the international award-winning expression, Indri-Trini: India’s first triple cask single malt, Piccadily Distilleries is thrilled to announce another proud achievement for India with its cask strength expression, Indri Dru, winning the Best Indian Single Malt’ at the World Whiskies Awards 2024. In less than a year after its launch in 2023, this exceptional cask strength whisky promises to redefine the whisky experience for connoisseurs and enthusiasts alike.

‘Dru’ means wood in Sanskrit. Indri Dru is a tribute to the divine drink “soma” that was offered to the Gods and collected in wooden vessels or dru, according to ancient Indian mythology. Crafted with precision and passion, Indri Dru is the result of careful selection and marriage of handpicked Ex-Bourbon barrels. The whisky is matured in the subtropical climate of northern India, where the elements imbue it with unique characteristics.

With an impressive 57.2% ABV, Indri Dru boasts a robust and captivating nose profile. Upon nosing, one can expect a delightful whiff of a mixed fruit basket, accompanied by subtle hints of vanilla, gentle spice, and notes of chocolate and honey. It entices the senses, setting the stage for an extraordinary tasting experience.

On the palate, Indri Dru offers a sweetish fruity forward taste, gracefully transitioning into soft spice and sweet vanilla. As the flavours unfold, a touch of chocolate and wood lactones appear, complemented by citrus notes that add depth and complexity to the whisky’s profile. The finish is full-bodied, complex, and leaves a long-lasting impression of mixed fruit flavours that will surely tantalize and satisfy even the most discerning palates.

Siddhartha Sharma, Founder, Piccadily Distilleries, expressed great excitement stating, This momentous achievement of winning the ‘Best Indian Single Malt’ award resonates with the world, showcasing India’s prowess in the realm of whisky craftsmanship. We believe Indri Dru will captivate whisky enthusiasts and provide them with a truly memorable experience. This victory not only honours our distillery but also elevates India’s status as a formidable player in the whisky industry worldwide.”

The judging process for the World Whiskies Awards takes place in three rigorous rounds with a panel that comprises leading international journalists, industry experts and specialist drink retailers. The results include gold, silver and bronze winners from different regions across the world, including the United Kingdom, the United States, Denmark, Australia, Canada, India, Japan, Ireland, Scotland, Korea and more.

Indri Dru has received accolades and recognitions earlier, including a glowing review from the esteemed International Wine and Spirits Competition of 2023, which praised it as a balanced whisky bursting with an abundance of aroma and flavour. Their panel of experts lauded its delightful combination of sweet spice, dried fruit, and dark chocolate, all culminating in a smooth and lingering finish. Truly a gorgeous addition to the world of whisky.
