Tenacious Pursuit of Excellence: Dr. Roger Chou Becomes Taiwan’s First CST

TAIPEI, Taiwan–(BUSINESS WIRE)–Dr. Roger Chou, affectionately known as “Dr. Roger,” achieved a significant milestone on May 5, 2023, in Portland, USA, by becoming Taiwan’s first Certified Scrum Trainer (CST). With ten years of dedication and perseverance, he distinguished himself among millions of Certified Scrum Masters (CSMs) worldwide. This momentous achievement was witnessed by his proud family members.

The CST, awarded by the world’s largest and most influential Scrum organization, Scrum Alliance, represents the highest level of Scrum trainers who guide Scrum and other agile methods to create effective collaborative working environments. With just over 200 CSTs worldwide, Taiwan had never seen one before. CSTs possess extensive knowledge and skills in agile development, enabling them to help teams achieve rapid and efficient product development.

In 2009, Dr. Chou became the first person in Asia to receive the PgMP certification. He later became one of the first three CSPs in Taiwan and, since 2014, has partnered with Canadian CST Bill Li to train over half of Taiwan’s CSMs. Dr. Chou’s contributions to Taiwan’s Scrum community are unparalleled, including his establishment of Taiwan’s largest online agile community, offering free monthly agile learning to over 5,000 members.

In 2022, Dr. Chou organized Taiwan’s RSG event (Taiwan International Scrum Gathering), setting a global record with 888 attendees, including 300 executives. The event attracted top agile coaches and experts, such as Dave West, Lyssa Adkins, Roman Pichler, and Geoff Watts, garnering increased global attention and influence for Taiwan’s agile community.

Dr. Chou believes that becoming a CST will help accelerate the agile transformation of Taiwan’s industries. He aims to assist over 100 Taiwanese companies in adopting Scrum, extending the agile mindset into non-IT industries. Dr. Chou has already facilitated Scrum training for companies such as Pfizer, Ricoh, Nissan, GSS, ETC and WNC, as well as organized large agile workshops for 30 junior and senior high school principals.

Dr. Chou’s unwavering commitment and relentless pursuit have culminated in him becoming Taiwan’s first CST. This new milestone will undoubtedly contribute to the agile transformation of various industries in Taiwan, ushering in a brighter future.
