A colossal feat, the project entails the construction of 200 kilometers of new tracks to the metropolitan line of Paris’ capital region to form a ring route around the ever growing city and connect pre-existing lines in developing neighborhoods. A project on such a scale involving extensive underground work naturally presents an array of potential health and safety issues for workers. Litum developed a real-time location system (RTLS) keeping site workers and the management team connected at all times and the data collected by the RTLS is subsequently formulated into accessible reports.
Litum’s high precision indoor positioning technology accurately locates workers via the active RFID tags attached to their helmets, as well as anchors operating on ultra-wideband (UWB) frequency, allowing the managers to constantly control and monitor all aspects of the operation including the location and number of workers present in any given area and compliance with entry access restrictions onsite. The system also allows controllers to alert tunnel workers in cases of emergency such as potential collisions with equipment or trains, fire and gas detection, and evacuation. Additionally, controllers are alerted should a worker remain inactive for an excessive period of time so that they can respond effectively to ensure the person’s safety.
As a result of the implementation of the system, the construction site has faster initial response rates in cases of emergency, improved personnel and visitor safety, greater compliance with regulatory guidelines.
