2022 Erhai Forum on Global Ecological Civilization Construction Held in Dali, Yunnan Province

DALI, China–(BUSINESS WIRE)–On August 28, 2022, the 2022 Erhai Forum on Global Ecological Civilization Construction, named after the famous local Erhai lake, was held in Dali, Yunnan province. This year’s forum, which took the theme “Working Together to Build a Shared Future for All Life on Earth,” aimed to promote international understanding of China and its ecological values, showcase the nation’s achievements in biodiversity conservation, and promote the construction of a “global ecological civilization.” The event was attended by hundreds of guests from around China and the rest of the world who came together to discuss important topics related to the environment and conservation.

This year’s forum also saw the official launch of the Green Life City Alliance Initiative, which aims to enhance the ecology of urban areas, promote green urban transformation and development, popularise the notion of “green life cities,” and make city construction and governance greener and more sustainable.

Dali has long been recognized for its beautiful landscape and historical and cultural heritage. In recent years, the prefecture has also become a model and showcase for China’s achievements in ecological and environmental protection, in particular, the protection of Erhai Lake and the preservation of rich local minority cultures. This makes it a fitting home for China’s leading forum on global ecological civilization construction.

By emphasizing ecosystem integrity in all aspects of local development, Dali Prefecture strives to embody the philosophy that clear waters and green mountains are invaluable assets. The local area has implemented an integrated program to restore and protect mountains, bodies of water, forests, fields, lakes, and grasslands.

Continuous steps have also been taken to reduce carbon emissions, reduce air and water pollution, improve the management of natural resources, and raise the environmental quality of Erhai Lake and surrounding areas. These efforts have led to a marked improvement in the local environment. At present, the overall ambient air quality is high across the 12 counties and cities of Dali prefecture, with good air quality ratings exceeding 99.5%. In addition, the proportion of water bodies included in national or provincial assessments that meet Class III or above has risen from 60% in 2014 to 90% in 2020.
