BLS Polymers shares open at ₹248, a 65% jump on a 241x-subscribed IPO

BLS Polymers shares delivered a blockbuster debut on the NSE on Tuesday, November 3, opening at ₹248 against an issue price of ₹150. That is a 65.33% premium, or ₹98 a share, in a single session. The BLS Polymers share price went from grey-market chatter to a quoted ₹98 gain without the stock ever printing near its issue price at the open.
Demand had been extreme for days. The company’s ₹255-crore IPO was subscribed 241.22 times over its three-day offer, with money coming from institutional investors, high-net-worth applicants and retail buyers alike, per subscription data reported by Zee Business and CNBC TV18. Ahead of the listing, the grey market was quoting a 44% premium, and the Economic Times noted the GMP pointed to gains of around 45%.
From ₹150 to ₹248 on day one
The arithmetic behind the BLS Polymers share price move is simple and unambiguous. ₹248 against ₹150 leaves a gap of ₹98. For every 100 shares an allottee holds, the notional profit at the listing price is ₹9,800, before brokerages, securities transaction tax and stamp duty. Upstox’s data as of the listing day shows a 52-week high of ₹268.60 and no low yet — not unusual for a first trading day, since the stock has no prior session to compare against.
An issuer with a 35-year paper trail
Behind the price spike sits a company older than the debut suggests. BLS Polymers Limited was incorporated as a public limited company under a Certificate of Incorporation dated January 16, 1991, issued by the Registrar of Companies Delhi and Haryana at New Delhi, Business Standard reported. The company manufactures specialised polymer compounds. It is not a freshly minted listing riding froth: the corporate record runs back more than three decades, and the issue itself was sized at ₹255 crore.
That age did not cool retail appetite. CNBC TV18 reported overwhelming demand across institutional, high-net-worth and retail categories, and Zee Business put the subscription at 241.22 times within the three-day offer window. When an issue closes more than two hundred times subscribed, the supply that walks into Day 1 trading is a thin slice of a very large demand pool, and the listing price tends to reflect that imbalance immediately.
The grey market undercalled the debut
Moneycontrol reported a grey market premium of 44% a day before the listing, with analysts weighing in on whether to buy, sell or hold. The Economic Times wrote that the GMP pointed to listing gains of 45%. The actual premium came in at 65.33%. The grey market left more than 20 percentage points of gain on the table; a 44% signal turning into a 65% print means the exchange price found buyers the grey channels had not yet priced in. Grey premiums are readouts of sentiment, not price promises.
Should buyers chase it from these levels?
That is the question the coverage keeps asking. For subscribers, the outcome is settled: ₹98 a share before costs at the moment of listing. For someone buying at ₹248, the reference price is not ₹150 anymore. It is ₹248, with a 52-week high already marked at ₹268.60 on Upstox. Indiatimes’s data page defines the price-to-earnings ratio here on a trailing twelve-month, adjusted basis, dividing the current market price by the latest annualised earnings per share. At ₹248, that multiple is being struck off a first-day valuation that rose 65% in hours.
The stock has no old 52-week low to fall back on — Upstox shows it as blank as of November 3 — so there is no historical support figure for new buyers to lean on. The open question is whether ₹248 holds once the first-day queue of sellers thins out.
