Diane Wang Attends the Third Side Event of G20 EMPOWER Indonesia, Sharing MyyShops Best Practices in Minimizing the Digital Gender Gap

BEIJING, China--(BUSINESS WIRE)--#carnival--The third side event of G20 EMPOWER Indonesia, held under the Indonesia Presidency, took place recently on July 26. The event was held to capture best practices and lessons learned regarding how the private sector and government can support minimizing digital gender gaps in the workplace and businesses, as well as why it is important to empower women in being ready for the future of the economy and the future of work, especially post-pandemic.

Diane Wang, Founder, Chairperson and CEO of DHGATE Group attended the first session of the event to discuss business solutions and practices under the theme of "Minimizing Digital Gender Gap", along with Mira Tayyiba, Chair of Digital Economy Working Group and Secretary-General for the Indonesian Ministry of Communications and Informatics, Mark Keese, Head of the Skills and Employability Division, OECD and Michiko Achilles, Senior Advisor of SAP Japan, and Special Advisor to the City of Yokohama.

Other attendees included Yessie D. Yosetya, Chair of G20 EMPOWER Indonesia, Rinawati Prihatiningsih, Co-chair of G20 EMPOWER Indonesia, Indra Gunawan, Acting Deputy Minister for Civil Society Participation Ministry of Women Empowerment and Child Protection of Indonesia, Nadiem Makarim, Minister of Education, Culture, Research, and Technology of Indonesia, and other high-profile government officials, private sector business leaders, business associations, women networks and platforms, as well as other relevant stakeholders.

Working in the cross-border e-commerce industry for decades, I have noticed the problem, and my company DHGATE Group has come up with our own solutions to further lower entry barriers for women to participate in the digital economy, Diane explained during her presentation.

We launched MyyShop, a Software-as-a-Service platform in 2020 to help online content creators all over the world monetize their social influence, Diane told the audience, adding that as time goes by, we have noticed that not only do content creators need digital tools like MyyShop, but also product sellers, especially women-led MSMEs, need digital tools to help them gain a slice in the booming social commerce economy.

Diane continued by introducing new functions MyyShop rolled out in June this year to facilitate content creators and suppliers to participate in global trade with lower upfront investment.

Florence Musundwa, moderator of the session "Minimizing Digital Gender Gap" and also Founder of Women Entrepreneurs Global Organization (INWEGO) of South Africa, spoke highly of the achievement of MyyShop to extend its influence to developing and underdeveloped countries and areas, supporting many local underprivileged women to fulfil their dreams of becoming future entrepreneurs via social commerce.

Diane called on all parties to strengthen multilateral cooperation in building up professional communities for women, which can serve as access to various resources, information, and funding.

The most important thing is to consolidate more resources and leverage partnerships with international organizations that already have projects related to women empowerment or gender equality, such as different organizations under the G20, including the Business 20 (B20), Women 20 (W20), or Youth 20 (Y20), and beyond, including the APEC Business Advisory Council (ABAC) or BRICS Women Business Alliance.

Furthermore, the collaboration format can be flexible, whether its funding, human resources, media resources, or others, as our key is to maximize resources, bring women empowerment programs together as much as possible, and put effort into solving the real issues, explained Diane Wang.

G20 Empower is one of the G20 Presidency initiatives, which brings together an alliance of private sector and government leaders to jointly advocate and support the advancement of women in leadership positions in both the private and public sectors.
