HBM Launches New Range of Robust and Reliable Sensors

Test and measurement expert unveils newLight optical fibre sensor line.

Germany, Germany, June 06, 2019 --(PR.com)-- HBM has created a range of optical sensors ideal for industrial engineers carrying out strain, tilt, temperature and acceleration tests newLight.

Based on Fiber Bragg Grating (FBG) technology, newLight reflects advances in optical measurement standards and merges the advantages of HBMs former optical product portfolio into one comprehensible line of optical sensors, suitable for multiple applications including vehicle validation, monitoring structural health of bridges, high buildings or tunnels, battery temperature tests and wind turbine durability.

Fiber Bragg Grating based sensors offer many advantages compared to electrical sensors; they are immune to all electromagnetic effects and offer long-term stability, with no zero-point drift because of the wavelength-based measurement. The sensors are suitable for glass and carbon fibre composite materials often used for highly stressed structures, such as airplanes and wind power turbines.

newLight also enables large strain measurement ranges at increased long-term stability, making them suitable for structural health monitoring, as they are quick and simple to install - and highly resistant to harsh environmental conditions such as humidity, rust and salt.
