These Trek e-bikes operate and ride like ordinary bicycles, except that the cyclist can choose from three levels of boost or no boost at all. The electric motor works only when the cyclist is pedaling. The effect is that the cyclist seems to be stronger than he or she would normally be. There is no throttle; the cyclist simply chooses how much boost is desired, and pedals normally. The bike does the rest. The feeling is magical: suddenly you feel stronger, hills are less exhausting, and every ride becomes fun.
