Neymar suspended as Santos look to end winless run at Bragantino

Neymar has been suspended for Santos’ Brasileirão meeting with Red Bull Bragantino on Monday, leaving the club to open Matchday 34 without its biggest star. The match kicks off at 20:00 at Estádio Cícero de Souza Marques in Bragança Paulista.

Bragantino vs Santos is a fixture of consequence for both teams. Each is chasing a place in the 2027 Copa Libertadores, and Santos arrive bearing a worrying record: seven straight league matches without a win. The pressure around the club has been building, and Neymar’s suspension raises the degree of difficulty further.

Both teams have confirmed their starting lineups for the round opener. Television and streaming coverage is in place, and Goal.com has published a guide to the available channels and stream options, along with team news and a preview.

OneFootball and Yahoo Sports carried the confirmed line-ups, noting the fixture begins the round. Neymar’s absence was the dominant talking point of the build-up.

Neymar suspended for the Bragantino clash

Monday’s absence is not an injury issue. Earlier this season in the Paulista A1, Neymar faced Bragantino and produced a decisive display, scoring a clever free-kick in a 2-0 Santos win before asking to be substituted. He later assured fans he was not injured, so the layoff now is purely down to suspension. Against an opponent he already hurt this year, Santos will feel his loss keenly.

It is a double blow for a side that had hoped to have its talisman available for a game of this importance. Bragantino, for their part, will see the suspension as a stroke of fortune: they face an attack shorn of its most dangerous individual, which simplifies their defensive task.

The suspension was announced days ahead of kick-off, giving Santos time to plan, but little comfort.

Santos’ seven-match league slide

Seven consecutive league fixtures without a win is the run Santos take into Monday. Reports frame the clash as one that “already feels bigger” than an ordinary fixture because of the pressure mounting on the club, and dropping more points would deepen the unease around the side. The winless sequence is the direct backdrop to a match that could reset the mood around the team.

Seven matches without a win is the sort of run that defines a season, and Santos are acutely aware of it. The strain has been visible, and there is little in recent results to suggest an easy turnaround. That is what makes this fixture so testing: it arrives at the worst possible moment in their campaign.

What’s at stake in the Libertadores race

Both clubs are chasing qualification for the 2027 Copa Libertadores, making every point valuable as the season enters its closing stretch. A win for either side would strengthen its claim; a draw would leave both vulnerable in a congested race.

The prediction market leans clearly toward the home side. Five of five AI models surveyed by ScoreGPT back RB Bragantino, including Sol, Claude Opus 5.5 and Grok 4.7, and those picks are graded publicly. The unanimous call rests on Bragantino’s home advantage and Santos’ winless league form. Not one of the five models picked Santos, a telling measure of how far the visitors’ stock has fallen.
