PyeongChang Peace Forum 2021 to Be Held Online and Offline From Feb. 7

PYEONGCHANG, South Korea–(BUSINESS WIRE)–#2024WinterYouthOlympicGames–The PyeongChang Peace Forum (PPF) 2021 will be held from February 7 to 9 at the PyeongChang Alpensia Convention Center in Gangwon Province utilizing both an on-site venue and online channels at the same time.

Marking the third anniversary of the PyeongChang 2018 Games, this event is hosted by Gangwon Province, PyeongChang County, and Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA) and organized by the PyeongChang 2018 Legacy Foundation.

The PPF is a global forum where national leaders and peace experts discuss world peace in Gangwon Province, the only divided province in the world.

This year, the forum will proceed under the slogan of Peace! Here and Now” and identify new challenges and opportunities in achieving peace on the Korean Peninsula and across the world in the face of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Under the topic of “Action Plan: Peace New Deal,” the attendees will engage in discussions on the plans to practice peace and the five key point agenda: economy, sports, DMZ Peace Zone, UN SDGs, and public diplomacy.

At the opening ceremony on February 7, IOC President Thomas Bach will deliver a message of peace and Jim Rogers, co-chairperson of the forum, will also give a special speech. The forum will provide a special session for discussions on the peace agreement in the Middle East and the Korean Peninsula and a session on sports for the successful hosting of the Gangwon 2024 Winter Youth Olympic Games.

February 8 and 9 will touch upon the five key point agenda. The keynote session will be led by Executive Director David Beasley of the United Nations World Food Programme, which won the 2020 Nobel Peace Prize, and Professor Muhammad Yunus, the 2006 Novel laureate and founder of the Grameen Bank.

In this hybrid event combining an offline venue and online channels utilizing the ICT, the PPF 2021 will become a “peace platform” where participants freely discuss the ways to turn challenges in the post-COVID-19 era into opportunities in promoting peace on the Korean Peninsula and across the world.

In particular, 33 sessions including the opening and closing ceremonies will be broadcast through the PPF 2021 website and YouTube channel.
