Tata Motors Passenger Vehicles Limited said it sold 75,426 cars and SUVs in October 2026 in domestic and international markets, up 23% from 61,295 units a year earlier. It was the company’s highest-ever monthly sales, and Autocar Professional said record factory dispatches kept Tata Motors in second place behind Maruti Suzuki and ahead of Mahindra in passenger vehicle retail registrations.
The detail matters for the Tata Motors car sales story. Domestic passenger vehicle sales rose 21% to 73,894 units, with exports at 1,532 units. Electric vehicles grew much faster than the portfolio; PV EV volumes surged 75% to 16,244 units, and the Punch EV became the first electric car in India to cross 5,000 monthly sales, according to Autopunditz. The 16,244 EV units are more than three times the Punch EV’s 5,000-unit milestone, but they still sit inside the 75,426 total.
Autocar Professional framed the PV result as a 73,894-unit monthly record, while the PV company’s statement put the total at 75,426 units after adding international markets. The 1,532 exported cars and SUVs explain the gap between the domestic record and the total. That domestic figure was up 21% year-on-year, tighter than the 23% growth for the whole PV portfolio.
Tata Motors also reported commercial vehicle strength. The Financial Express put October CV sales at 47,652 units, up 27% from 37,530 units a year earlier. International CV sales jumped 225% to 7,868 units, while domestic CV sales increased 13% to 39,784 units. ET Auto attributed the domestic CV gain to strong demand across segments, including high commercial vehicles. The export pattern is inverted compared with passenger vehicles, with CVs sent abroad making up a much larger slice, 7,868 of 47,652, than the 1,532 PV exports inside the PV total.
October was strong beyond Tata Motors. Moneycontrol reported India’s car sales crossed 5 lakh for the first time in a month, an October 2026 record. Autocar India’s manufacturer-wise ranking had Maruti Suzuki leading retail registrations, Tata Motors second and Mahindra third. The Economic Times said Hyundai, Tata, Mahindra, Maruti and Kia rode the festive cheer, while Renault and Escorts Kubota declined.
The cumulative picture supports the monthly one. Autocar Professional counted 649,477 Tata Motors cars and SUVs sold between January and October 2026, the volume base behind the No. 2 rank. That is separate from the commercial vehicle count; the PV arm’s 75,426 and the CV business’s 47,652 are not overlapping October figures.
The next check is November. Watch whether the industry’s 5 lakh October mark holds after the festive season, whether Tata Motors defends second place in retail registrations, and whether the 649,477 cumulative car and SUV count through October becomes the floor or the pace-setter for the next statement.
