Comprehensive Guide to Applying for an Indian Passport

Applying for an Indian passport involves several steps, including filling out an application form, providing necessary documents, and attending an appointment at a Passport Seva Kendra (PSK) or a Regional Passport Office (RPO). Here’s a step-by-step guide:

Step 1: Gather Required Documents

You’ll need the following documents:

  1. Proof of Address: Aadhaar card, Voter ID, utility bills, etc.
  2. Proof of Date of Birth: Birth certificate, school leaving certificate, etc.
  3. Proof of Identity: Aadhaar card, PAN card, etc.
  4. Additional Documents: Marriage certificate (if applicable), Annexure E (for minors), etc.

Step 2: Register on the Passport Seva Portal

  1. Visit the Passport Seva Portal.
  2. Click on “New User? Register Now”.
  3. Fill in the registration form and create an account.

Step 3: Fill Out the Application Form

  1. Log in to your account.
  2. Click on “Apply for Fresh Passport/Re-issue of Passport”.
  3. Fill out the online application form with all required details.
  4. Save and submit the form.

Step 4: Pay the Application Fee

  1. After submitting the form, you’ll be directed to pay the application fee.
  2. The fee can be paid online via credit/debit card, net banking, or through a Challan.

Step 5: Schedule an Appointment

  1. After paying the fee, schedule an appointment at a Passport Seva Kendra (PSK) or Regional Passport Office (RPO).
  2. Select the date and time slot for your appointment.

Step 6: Visit the Passport Seva Kendra (PSK) / Regional Passport Office (RPO)

  1. On the day of your appointment, visit the PSK or RPO with the original documents and a printout of your appointment confirmation.
  2. Complete the verification process, which includes:
    • Document verification
    • Biometric data capture
    • Photograph capture

Step 7: Police Verification

  1. After the appointment, a police verification will be conducted at your address.
  2. Ensure that you or a family member is available to provide necessary information and documents to the police officer.

Step 8: Track Application Status

  1. You can track the status of your application on the Passport Seva Portal using your file number and date of birth.

Step 9: Receive Passport

  1. Once your application is processed and police verification is completed, your passport will be printed and dispatched to your address.
  2. You will receive SMS and email notifications regarding the status and dispatch details.
