Enzo Le Fée Signs Five-Year Sunderland Contract Extension Until 2031

French midfielder Enzo Le Fée has committed his long-term future to Sunderland AFC by signing a new five-year contract that keeps him at the Stadium of Light until 2031. The agreement comes nineteen months after the playmaker first arrived on Wearside, locking down one of manager Régis Le Bris’s key figures in midfield.
Sunderland originally brought in Enzo Le Fée on loan from Italian club Roma before making the transfer permanent once promotion to the Premier League was secured. That permanent deal was completed after the Black Cats mounted a 2-1 comeback victory against Sheffield United in the play-offs. Since joining the squad, the 24-year-old midfielder has made 56 appearances across all competitions.
European penalty milestone and Liverpool stunner
Le Fée’s contract extension follows a sequence of standout performances in domestic and European fixtures. In Sunderland’s Europa League opener against Dutch side AZ Alkmaar, Le Fée scored the winning goal from the penalty spot in a 1-0 victory. The match marked Sunderland’s first win in European competition in 53 years, following a half-century absence from continental tournaments.
The midfielder also produced a notable performance against Liverpool at Geodis Park, scoring a long-range goal from central midfield. Following that match, Le Fée stated his ambition to become one of the top players in his position. Off the pitch, the midfielder reflected on his alternative career path in a recent interview, noting that if he had not become a professional footballer, he would have chosen to be a magician.
Relegation fight ahead of Chelsea clash
The announcement of the contract comes during a difficult stretch of domestic form for Sunderland. Head coach Régis Le Bris admitted the team is currently locked in a Premier League relegation battle after a 3-1 defeat to Coventry City and a separate 2-0 loss deepened their recent struggles.
Le Bris stated that the club was fully prepared for the challenges of top-flight football after gaining promotion last season. Sunderland are now preparing to host Chelsea at the Stadium of Light this Sunday, aiming to pick up three points at home and improve their position in the standings.
Match statistics and workload management
Le Fée’s recent workload highlights his role in balancing Sunderland’s domestic and European fixtures. In a 0-0 Premier League draw against Leeds United, the midfielder took two shots with zero on goal, delivered two accurate crosses from two attempts, and took one corner kick.
That starting spot against Leeds came after Le Bris gave Enzo Le Fée a rest on the bench during midweek Europa League action. Le Bris emphasized that there is still “more to come” from the player following his contract renewal, as Sunderland look to rely heavily on their central midfielder in the coming weeks.
