Rockstar Games is removing Red Dead Redemption 2 from the PlayStation Plus Extra and Premium game catalog in November, ending its run on the subscription service alongside Grand Theft Auto 5. At the same time, players have until November 4 to grab free in-game downloads, rewards, and bonuses as part of the ongoing Red Dead Online Halloween event.
Even six years after its original release, Red Dead Redemption 2 continues to make news as fans track hardware port rumors, community-made mods, and performance comparisons against upcoming releases.
Subscribers to PlayStation Plus Extra and Premium will lose access to Red Dead Redemption 2 in November, Collider reported. IGN India noted that GTA 5 is also being pulled from the service’s Game Catalog during the same window, leaving players with only a short period to access both titles through their subscription tier.
For active multiplayer players, Screen Rant and Comic Book Resources reported that free downloads, rewards, and event bonuses tied to the Red Dead Online Halloween update will officially remain available until November 4. Meanwhile, TechTimes reported that the six-year-old game is set to receive a surprise update soon, which is expected to deliver a batch of new content and potential DLC to refresh the title.
The technical footprint of Red Dead Redemption 2 remains a key reference point for Rockstar’s future projects. BigGo Finance reported that Grand Theft Auto VI will require 210 GB of storage space on the PlayStation 5. That figure tops the storage footprint of Red Dead Redemption 2 by 61 GB, placing the 2018 western title’s install size at roughly 149 GB.
Map dimensions show a similar leap in scale. GameSpot reported that the landmass of GTA 6 is nearly as big as the maps of GTA 4, GTA 5, and Red Dead Redemption 2 combined. Despite these massive figures for upcoming titles, commentary in Medium noted that the visual presentation of the 2018 game is somehow aging in reverse, maintaining high graphical standards years after release.
Speculation regarding native current-generation console releases remains active among players. PCQuest reported that rumors are swirling around a potential PlayStation 5 port. Gamers have maintained that the title deserves a dedicated PS5 release, with reports questioning whether Rockstar will launch the upgraded version after GTA 6 arrives.
A potential handheld release is also being tracked. TalkEsport reported that an industry insider gave Red Dead Redemption 2 a 9 out of 10 chance of eventually coming to the Nintendo Switch 2. However, the insider claimed that development on the Switch 2 port has been paused while Rockstar prioritizes shipping GTA 6 on November 19.
While official ports remain pending, third-party modders have introduced substantial new gameplay mechanics. Polygon reported on the “enRAGE” mod, which adapts the Nemesis system seen in Shadow of Mordor to the Wild West setting. The mod adds personal grudges, rival factions, and dynamic, evolving gang wars to the open-world map.
In another modding development, GAMINGbible reported that Ghost Rider was added to the game world. With no new official Ghost Rider video games on the horizon since the simple 2007 release of Ghost Rider, the mod introduced the Marvel character to Rockstar’s RPG environment.
Development details regarding the main story campaign continue to draw attention as well. IGN reported that protagonist Arthur Morgan’s coughing fits sounded realistic because voice actor Roger Clark was actually sick while performing the voice recording sessions.
